Our Story

we’ve spent the past three decades caring for and creating a unique space for the gardening community and our neighbors here in Southeast Wisconsin

Est. 1991

We discovered this 10-acre farmstead tucked away here in the rolling hills of southeastern Wisconsin.

We believed that we had the opportunity to create something unique by combining our talents and maintaining the spirit and character of this farm. So we got to work and here we are now over three decades later.

  • Colleen Garrigan

Colleen is often thought of as the charm of the farm.

She has the gift of taking everyday objects and turning them into art and the gardens and out buildings at Northwind are her canvases.

Colleen is the buyer and also manages the retail end of Northwind. She has a discerning eye for selecting beautiful and unique planters, fountains, wrought iron pieces, and art for your home and garden. Her talent for displaying these pieces will inspire you.

Colleen has maintained the spirit of the original, early 1900’s farmstead by raising farm animals and curating a collection of small outbuildings on the property.

  • Roy Diblik

Roy is a recognized perennial plant expert, grower, designer, speaker and author.

Combining his 35 years of knowledge growing traditional and Midwest native perennials, he specializes in highly aesthetic, sustainable plant communities for all seasons, while reducing maintenance through design. He believes that gardens should be thoughtful, ecologically directed, emotionally outreaching and yet very personal.

  • Steve Coster

Steve helped lead the landscape design and installation division.

His talents can be witnessed in the stone walls and paths that wind throughout Northwind. He used only natural and native materials that fit with the environment. His choice of trees and shrubs, which are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally correct, make walking through Northwind all the more lovely.

After Steve’s passing in 2019, his work continues to amaze our guests and lives on at Northwind.
