butterfly pattern No. 6
butterfly Garden Pattern No. 6
Overview
This pattern has a gentle habit. Soft blue daisy flowers of the Aster mingles nicely with the gray/green foliage of the Sedum and finely divided foliage of the Coreopsis. Beyond the beautiful texture are the golden/yellow flowers of the Coreopsis fronting the medium pink, large Sedum flowers. Add to that the soft, blue daisy flowers of the Aster leaning gently into the Coreopsis, Sedum mix. Art in the garden!
Stewardship
No deadheading of the flowers! The Coreopsis flowers as they age into mid-August look like rusty nails just above the yellow/green, delicate Autumn foliage. The Aster seed heads appear as small cotton balls in September. Nice right!! And the Sedum in bloom is visited by bees and butterflies. It’s a very active flower in September. Cut everything back in March before your bulbs come up. Leave the plants stem and leaf remnants in the garden. That’s their healthy mulch. Plants have been self-mulching since they appeared on Earth.
BUTTERFLIES, BIRDS AND POLLINATORS
The Coreopsis is super at attracting native bees, native pollinating flies and some moths and butterflies. Birds associating with Coreopsis are Finches, Nuthatches and Chickadees plus others. The Sedum is also butterfly friendly along with the constant visits of bees.
*These garden plans can be followed explicitly or adjusted to meet individual needs, unlocking rich perennial landscape designs for individualization and creativity.
