Pollinator pattern No. 1
Pollinator Garden Pattern No. 1
Overview
This combination provides a lively beginning to June. The Salvia has clear white flower spikes that set the tone for the emerging rich purple flowering spikes of the Veronica blooming slightly later. As this scene is developing the upright, slightly loose Coreopsis with medium green, small lobed foliage begins flowering. The golden, daisy flowers accent the rich purple and white flowers of the Veronicas. This is a combination you can find moments for gracefully drifted through your garden.
It's thoughtful repetition that enhances the artistry of the garden.
Stewardship
There’s no need for dead heading any of these plants.
The clumping growth habit of the Veronicas will grow together shading out the soil by the third growing season. If you have some gaps divide one or two of them and fill the gaps. You want the planting tight to limit weed seed germination. The Veronica flowers will have a beautiful, dark brown, vertical look always accenting the Salvia as it continues to bloom modestly through the summer after its heavy white bloom time mid -June to mid-July. In July as the Coreopsis finishes flowering the seed heads are green changing to dark brown looking like large rusty nails.
This pattern is month to month harmonious change. In mid-March look for a nice day and start cutting the plants from the top to the bottom, about 3 inches from the ground. Then you can mow everything with a mulching mower breaking the remnant plant material into smaller pieces. That’s your mulch!!
Plants are very healthy living in their own seasonal cycle of vegetational change.
*These garden plans can be followed explicitly or adjusted to meet individual needs, unlocking rich perennial landscape designs for individualization and creativity.
